Pilot Counseling

Kahn has been actively involved in the aviation industry for 30+ years. She is one of the nationís first female commercial pilots hired and one of few pioneers still working. Prior to starting her airline career in 1977, she instructed at the Sierra Academy in Northern California and operated her own weekend ground school teaching Private, Commercial and Instrument courses.

She holds ratings through Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), including type ratings on the Boeing 757/767 and McDonnell-Douglas MD-80. She was the first woman to be type-rated in a Lockheed JetStar. Her other ratings include: CFII MEI, Flight Engineer, Turbojet, Seaplane, Helicopter, and the coveted Master CFI (MCFI) designation from the National Association of Flight Instructors.

As an author, speaker and career counselor, Captain Kahn also specializes in helping pilots improve their career preparation, and more recently has expanded her business to provide career development beyond aviation.

"Karen Kahn is an extraordinary mentor. As a professional pilot she knows the pitfalls, toils and traps that impede aviation career progress. As a career counselor, she's the perfect guide to help traverse these obstacles. She has helped many aspiring aviators fulfill their cockpit destiny. Absorb her message and you. too, will be that much closer to your career goals."

Counseling Services:
 Basic (0-400 flight hours)
 Advanced (400+ flight hours)
 Senior (for clients aged 65+)
 Airline Interview
 Single Issue

Our Basic, Advanced or Senior counseling service begins with a detailed questionnaire describing your personal, professional, educational and financial background. Once we receive your paperwork, we will call you to schedule telephone or in-person counseling session at our offices in Santa Barbara, California. (Evening and weekend appointments are available and SB Airport pickup available, upon request.)

Our Airline Interview counseling is a 3Ĺ to 4-hour session, which includes a videotaped mock interview designed to replicate your actual airlineís interview. Working with an employed Airline Captain, we will analyze your strengths and probe your weak areas to help you answer the tough interview questions, while avoiding canned responses. We recommend lodging your paperwork with our office at least one (1) week prior to your counseling appointment and at least two (2) weeks before your airline interview.

Our Single Issue counseling session enables you to share a single, crucial career concern with an experienced professional pilot who can advise you toward the right choice and help you avoid expensive mistakes.

Due to its immediate nature, the counseling session is conducted by phone after we receive your written information, detailing your special need or concern.
